GRAY HAIR MATTERS

I can’t believe how much time and money I wasted covering up my gray hair.  And the comments which were meant to be kind that my hair color looked good.  Then the honest comment, your gray is so much better than what you had before.  I absolutely love red hair.  So I tried many colors to make that happen.  My last try by my hair dresser, figured would go professional, turned my hair orange.  At least that was right before Halloween, so I told my students that was why it was orange.  Yes, a lie that was meant to be a joke, then I told the truth.

That is what I see in the Black Lives Matter movement. There is an elephant in the room.  I wonder why the priority for time and money is not used to prevent needing cops in the first place.  Why not focus George Floyd’s memory on building programs the prevent crime, instead of promoting the looting and destruction as I see on the news. I just listened on NPR Houston a report on foster care. We need programs to prevent the need for foster care in the first place. There used to be child development courses in schools, but the very electives that can promote positive change are not a priority. The money and time is going into testing. Just like I see action in the black equity problem, we have to decompose and take action.  For us GRAY HAIRS, that means something in our safe circles.  For me, that is in my neighborhood creating a native wildlife area for conversations that can lead to change. And online with my friends in the groups where I have had F2F time, as I know change happens best when we have that hand helping us.  Yes we need to think globally, but we must take action locally.

On Dr. Seuss and organizing a protest, but need data on why those few with the power think they are racist. And open up discussion on bullying, social media and rise in suicides for our youth using: “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” ,“If I Ran the Zoo” “McElligot’s Pool,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!,” and “The Cat’s Quizzer.”…  On my gravestone … “She did Try” – pineylinks.edublogs.org/2011/05/22/brain-reflections/
